The building, which dates from the 15th century, can look back at over 600 years of hospitality. Despite extensive renovation, the numerous stories from the past can be experienced and perceived throughout the hotel. Many of the historical features are under a preservation order, and thanks to careful renovation its age-old past is now combined with timeless, eclectic design abounding in charm and personality.

The building was first mentioned in writing in 1291 and since then has become an absolute icon on Zurich’s urban landscape. The hotel is a member of the Historic Hotels of Europe and is overflowing with culture and history. Nevertheless, all the rooms meet the modern-day high standards and are individually designed.

From arrival to departure, here the guest is king: whether enjoying an aperitif or a meal in the hotel’s in-house Igniv Restaurant – a culinary masterpiece by Michelin-starred chef Andreas Caminada – or browsing through the hotel’s historic library, quality is to be found in every nook and cranny at the Marktgasse.

The “Marktgässli” is one of the oldest guesthouses in the city and could hardly be more central: as soon as you cross the threshold, you find yourself in the heart of the Old Town and close to the magnificent River Limmat.

Swiss Historic Hotel

First mention of the hotel as a guesthouse was back in 1425. And since extensive renovation works, with great attention paid to preserving heritage listed elements, this splendid 600-year-old abode at the heart of Zurich’s romantic old town, namely “Dörfli“, delights with a skilful blend of history and modern: Exposed columns, playful frescoes, simple panelling and nostalgic lattice windows discreetly reflect the long cherished. The 39 atmospheric rooms are fitted with design classics and quality parquet flooring.

Boutique & Design Hotel

This 600-year-old building boasts a refined mix of historic heritage elements and timeless, modern design. Columns, frescos and old floors alternate with simple yet stylish wood chairs and textiles in discreet colours. Each of the differently sized rooms features custom-made furniture, which creates the atmosphere of a private home. The lobby feels like a living room, while the delish Café Take-out and Baltho Küche&Bar on the ground floor are great places to meet locals.
