Description

Like a castle, Grimsel Hospiz sits enthroned on the Nollen, which soars on high as a symbol of the hydropower generated from fjord-like Lake Grimsel. This building is a witness to Swiss history. It was originally mentioned back in 1142 as the country’s first guesthouse. In 1932, the new building caused a sensation as Europe’s first electrically heated hotel. Nearly 80 years on, the hotel is opening its doors again after another refurbishment. The familiar, rugged, crushed granite façade with red window shutters hides an interior that leaves nothing to be desired. The 28 rooms are tastefully appointed in a style reminiscent of the 1930s. The Arven- und Turmsaal provides an ideal setting for festive occasions. The Grimsel Hospiz is also a winner when it comes to cuisine. And yet the real treasures can be found in the famous wine cellar: more than 300 wines are stored here.

O Grimsel Hospice na szlaku handlowym Piemont-Burgund wspomniano po raz pierwszy w dokumentach z 1142 r. Po powodzi, w 1932 r. został odbudowany pomiędzy dwiema tamami. Pierwszy ogrzewany elektrycznie hotel w Europie. Meble autorstwa Horgen Glarus. Styl budynku charakteryzuje drewno sosnowe i pokoje w wieży. Duża, pięknie utrzymana piwnica na wino została założona ze względu na kupców, którzy przejeżdżali obok zajadu.

O Grimsel Hospice wspomniano w dokumentach z 1142 r., jako pierwszym hotelu w Szwajcarii. Pierwotnie było to schronisko dla osób przewożących zwierzęta juczne. Był to także pierwszy, elektrycznie ogrzewany hotel w Szwajcarii. Obiekt został przekształcony w imponujący hotel przez architekta Jacquesa Wipfa. Po remoncie, ponowne otwarcie nastąpiło w 2010 r. Hotel zachował swoją dawną świetność.

Getting there

The hotel offers a splendid view to the „Aare-Valley“ and the Grimsel-Lake. The best road connection from Basel/Zurich is in direction Lucerne, then Brünigpass, then following the „Grimselpass“. From Berne you drive direction Interlaken and then also following „Grimselpass“. The journey lasts approx: - 200 Min. from Zurich - 80 Min. from Lucerne - 90 Min. from Berne - 200 Min. from Basel Please pay attantion that the Grimsel- and Sustenpass are open only from end of May to end of october. By train: From Interlaken and Lucerne you have direct train connections to Meiringen. There you take the Meiringen–Innertkirchen-Bahn (MIB) to Innertkirchen. From here you take the Postbus to the hotel. Pay attention to the time-tables, because the busses do not drive regularly.
