ルツェルンの湖畔にたたずむ優美な白亜の建物は、1845年に創業した約170年の歴史を誇る老舗高級ホテル「ホテル・シュヴァイツァーホフ・ルツェルン」。音楽家ワーグナーをはじめ、王族・貴族、芸術家、音楽家など多くのセレブたちに愛されてきた由緒あるホテルです。開国したばかりの日本が派遣した岩倉使節団もホテルに立ち寄っています。 優美な装飾のバンケットホール、ライブラリーなど往時の華やかな雰囲気をそのままに残しながらも、数段階にわけて改修工事を進め、2014年4月には全101室の客室すべてが新デザインにリニューアルしました。エレガントでスタイリッシュな客室はゆったりとしたスペースを確保し、大型フラットテレビ（薄型テレビ）、コーヒーマシン、防音窓、無線LAN（WiFi）など最新の設備をそろえました。ホテルの部屋で名曲『トリスタンとイゾルデ』を完成させたワーグナーや、チャーチル、B.B.キング、TOTOなど、このホテルに滞在してきた、さまざまな有名ゲストたちをイメージしたデザインも特徴のひとつです。今では格式の高いクラシックホテルでありながら、同時にデザインホテルでもあるという新しいタイプのホテルに生まれ変わっています。

1870〜71年の普仏戦争のワンシーンをエドゥアール・カストルEdouard Castresが10x110mの巨大キャンパスに描いたユニークなパノラマ図です。
