향수 어린 아르누보 스타일과 벨 에포크의 분위기를 지닌 이 호텔은 이미 토마스 만(Thomas Mann)의 저서 "마의 산(Zauberberg)"에 묘사된 바가 있다. 1900년 문을 연 고급 요양소였으며, 이후 산악 호텔로 용도가 변경 되었다. 이곳을 가장 잘 나타내주는 곳이라고 할 수 있는 건물은 오늘날까지 본래의 형태를 그대로 지니고 있다. 과거 의사들의 거처였던 빌라 구아르다(Villa Guarda)와 샬레 건물에는 호화로운 스위트 룸이 들어서 있다. 다보스에서 기차를 타면 “마의 산(Magic Mountain)”이라 불리는 이곳까지 단 4분이면 도착한다. 호텔 부지 내 전체는 물론 샤츠알프(Schatzalp)/스트렐라(Strela) 스키 구역에서도 무료로 무선 인터넷을 사용할 수 있어 편리하다.

The Schatzalp, also known as the "Magic Mountain", is located on a sun-drenched plateau directly above Davos. The Schatzalp is not known as the "Magic Mountain" for no reason: firstly readers of the literary masterpiece of the same name by Thomas Mann imagine his "magic mountain" to have been located here and, secondly, the Schatzalp is still today enchanting its visitors in a very special and mysterious way.

The Schatzalp offers visitors a wealth of diverse attractions. The Hotel Schatzalp lies 300 metres above Davos in a splendid south-facing position. The hotel, built in the Art Nouveau style between 1898 and 1900, was originally designed as a luxurious sanatorium and was regarded as one of the most advanced healing centres of its kind in the region at the start of the 20th century. Since 1953, the Schatzalp Sanatorium has been run as the first-class Hotel Schatzalp. The hotel, along with the entire mountain, has been immortalised by the novel "The Magic Mountain" (1924) written by the acclaimed German author and Nobel Prize Winner Thomas Mann. The Schatzalp Panorama Restaurant (do be sure to try their fondue specialities!) offers guests a splendid view over Davos. A short uphill walk (15 minutes) leads to the Strelaalp mountain restaurant (1921 m above sea level), which also features a wonderful sun terrace with fantastic views over the whole of Davos.

다보스(Davos) 위 300m 높이에 자리한 샤츠알프는 평화와 고요를 원하는 이, 자연을 소중히 여기는 이, 역사를 체험하고 싶은 모든 이에게 만족스러운 장소다. 유서 깊은 호텔과 주변을 둘러싼 알프스의 환경은 서로를 완성시키는 듯 어울린다. 호텔이 지어질 때 함께 놓인 푸니큘라 철도는 아직까지도 고객들을 이곳까지 데려다 준다. 처음엔 고급 요양소로 지어진 샤츠알프 호텔은 건축회사 Pfleghard & Haefeli에서 건축을 담당했다. 국제 결핵 환자 모임 인원 가운데 좀 더 심도 있는 치료를 받을 여유가 있는 환자들이 찾아오기 좋은 입지를 선택해 1900년 문을 열었다. 그 당시 치료법의 핵심 원리는 햇볕을 가능한 잘 쪼이는 것이었고, 이는 호텔이 남쪽을 향해 지어진 이유이다. 100m가 넘는 긴 외벽은 일자로 늘어선 테라스와 닮아 있으며, 바람으로부터 몸을 숨겨주는 피난처였다. 이곳에서 환자들은 담요를 덮고 명성이 자자한 노란색 다보스(Davos) 접이 의자에 앉아 햇볕을 쪼이고 신선한 산 공기를 마시며 하루 종일 휴식을 취하곤 했다. 의학의 발전으로 요양소는 1950년대에 문을 닫게 되었다. 하지만 1945년 초 샤츠알프는 세심한 복원을 거쳐 92개의 객실을 갖춘 호텔로 다시 문을 열었다. 1900년 지어진 승강기를 포함해 본래 건물 중 많은 곳이 그대로 남아 있다. 아르누보식의 널찍한 일반 객실과 부분적으로 복원된 유서 깊은 욕실 공간 등의 인테리어는 보는 이의 눈길을 사로잡는다. 그 밖에도 1954년 호텔의 변모 당시 놓여진 가구 같은 높은 가치를 지닌 요소들도 볼 수 있다.
