Arriving in Andermatt is an experience in itself: the village is set in an impressive high-altitude valley, surrounded entirely by mountains. With eight Alpine passes, the variety of tours around Andermatt is unique. Particularly beautiful are hikes at the Oberalp and Furka Pass or along the Four Springs Trail, which takes you through impressive Alpine landscapes to the sources of the Rhône, Rhine, Reuss and Ticino. Mountain bike fans will find challenging terrain on the Gottardo Bike route down to Ticino. Steeped in myths, the Schöllenen Gorge was the bottleneck of the first north–south route over the Gotthard. Andermatt’s large winter sports area extends up to 3,000 metres, stretching from the peaks of Gemsstock and Nätschen over the Oberalp all the way to Disentis and Sedrun.
