Description

This is Andermatt

Andermatt lies in the Swiss Alps in the south of the canton of Uri. This mountain village in the Urseren Valley is a top travel destination thanks to the Schöllenen Gorge, the surrounding Alpine passes and its large winter sports area.

Discover Andermatt

Arriving in Andermatt is an experience in itself: the village is set in an impressive high-altitude valley, surrounded entirely by mountains. Against this backdrop, you start your walk through the village. You’ll discover the most beautiful patrician house, today home to the Ursern Valley Museum. You can browse the many shops selling outdoor equipment and souvenirs such as rock crystals from the Gotthard region. To finish, make a detour to the Reuss quarter, where the Piazza Gottardo with its Victorinox Store and restaurants invites you to linger.

Passes and mountain tours

With eight Alpine passes, the variety of tours around Andermatt is unique. Particularly beautiful are hikes at the Oberalp and Furka Pass or along the Four Springs Trail, which takes you through impressive Alpine landscapes to the sources of the Rhône, Rhine, Reuss and Ticino. Mountain bike fans will find challenging terrain on the Gottardo Bike route down to Ticino. Steeped in myths, the Schöllenen Gorge was the bottleneck of the first north–south route over the Gotthard. The view from the Devil’s Bridge over the rushing Reuss is truly breathtaking.

Winter sports in Andermatt

Andermatt’s large winter sports area extends up to 3,000 metres, stretching from the peaks of Gemsstock and Nätschen over the Oberalp all the way to Disentis and Sedrun. On 180 kilometres of pistes, you’ll find excellent snow conditions. There are also fantastic sledging runs, perfectly groomed cross-country ski trails and scenic winter hiking trails.

Close to Andermatt lie the charming neighbouring village of Hospental and the Gotthard Pass summit with the Sasso San Gottardo Fortress – both well worth a visit.
