Zurich’s manufacturing cluster maintains a dominant global presence by prioritising high-value, technology-intensive production. The region is a leader in advanced manufacturing, particularly in the medtech, robotics, and aerospace sub-sectors. Recognised as one of Europe’s most innovative and export-oriented industrial hubs, Zurich has successfully integrated AI-driven 'Industry 4.0' processes to maintain its competitive edge. Despite shifts in the global supply chain, the cluster remains a vital economic pillar, benefiting from its proximity to world-class research institutions such as ETH Zurich.

  • Global Leaders The region is home to global technology and manufacturing firms such as ABB, Siemens, Georg Fischer, OC Oerlikon, and Sensirion.
  • Highly Export Orientated The broader Swiss MEM sector, of which Zurich is a leading part, is highly export-oriented and accounts for roughly a quarter of total Swiss exports. Zurich's specialized manufacturers export products like sensors, high-voltage switchgear, and automation solutions.
  • Talent Hub The region is consistently ranked as a leading global hub for attracting and retaining top international talent, giving manufacturers access to a highly qualified and productive workforce.

Zurich's financial history is characterised by growth and innovation, establishing it as a leading global financial centre. Today, the economy is anchored by banks, insurers and a top-ranked FinTech scene. 2026, the sector continues to account for one in ten regional jobs and one in six francs of value added, with insurance emerging as a primary growth driver. Although the historic merger of Credit Suisse into UBS has resulted in recent structural consolidation and transitions in the banking sector, its overall value creation remains more dynamic than that of the broader economy. Zurich continues to lead the way through innovation and its long-standing commitment to sustainable financial products.
