Basel is Europe’s number one life sciences supercluster and is home to over 800 companies, including Roche and Novartis. It dominates Swiss biotech investment and is the global leader in pharmaceutical R&D and trinational innovation.
Geneva cannot be compared with Silicon Valley as an ICT and AI hub. It does not have a focus on commercial tech hubs. However, given that the United Nations Headquarters are located there, Geneva is built to align rapid technological advancement with human-centred governance and the needs of society.
The Trust Valley was created to bring together a large number of organisations (400) and experts (500). Thanks to companies such as Kudelski and SICPA, which are based near Lausanne, the region has become a cybersecurity expert.
The Health Valley covers western Switzerland, stretching from Geneva to Bern, with Lausanne at its heart. Thanks to its start-ups, research institutes and university hospital, Lausanne is a leader in medical innovation in the healthcare and life sciences sector.
Thanks to the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne, Lausanne and the canton of Vaud are on the map of the space cluster. With its specialisations in space sustainability, advanced satellite communications and high-precision aerospace manufacturing, the world-famous EPFL has transformed Lausanne into a powerhouse of this ecosystem.
Lausanne and area is home of the International Olympic Committee, 25 sports federations and 40 international sports organisation.
