Where are you from?
At the St.Gallen Textile Museum, you can learn how Eastern Switzerland shaped the fashion world of the 19th century. You watch an embroiderer at a hand embroidery machine from 1890 and touch fabrics that once dressed queens and kings.
The founding of the museum was an initiative of the Commercial Directorate, which collected fabric samples from all over the world from 1863 onwards as inspiration for the embroidery industry. Today, the collection comprises around 56,000 objects such as historical fabrics, lace, pattern books and costumes, making it one of the most important textile collections in Switzerland.
