Approximately half a million enquiries and phone calls are registered every winter.
Apart from publishing national and regional avalanche bulletins the institute has to process a wide range of other data relating to avalanche risk. The work of the institute is primarily in the research field but it also has an advisory function and is occasionally called upon to give expert opinion for a practical purpose or following avalanche accidents.
